πŸ¦‘ April is here! πŸͺ‚

Once per month, the monstrous and magickal Leviathan floats through town, dropping $SQUID on everybody who helps us build the world’s preeminent decentralized news organization.

πŸ”‘ Key Updates

πŸ“° News

Our news team hit all time highs on all major stats in the month of March. 60 contributors (up from 42) posted 1,155 approved articles (up from 719) that received 63.8 clicks apiece (up from 55.4).

Congrats to DanicJade who led these efforts as both the top news scout and second most active editor.

The top headlines from the month, per our special blend:

Much of this growth was attributed to the activity of our Leviathan bot which we let loose on 𝕏 last month as a two way distribution channel. Try it out! If you find any news you think is interesting simply reply β€œSquid it @leviathan_news” and earn some doubloons.

πŸ› οΈ Dev

March was the development team’s most active month in history. A whopping 104 pull requests covering 550 commits, (18 commits per day).

The results of some of these efforts are often invisible, but manifest in ways like the Telegram bot and website becoming blazingly fast with far less downtime.

Some highlights from March to keep an eye on:

πŸ¦‘ BattleBots

You may have noticed this manifest in our highly publicized effort to fight bots in our Telegram channel. We’ve slain nearly 50K bots over the month, as we fight to keep the community safe from low quality AI models. Full details:

BattleBots πŸ€– βš”οΈ
Fighting Telegram spam to improve Leviathan’s Signal-to-News ratio Telegram has a bot problem. Not a small one. Not a manageable one. A systemic one. The @leviathan_news broadcast channel peaked at 86,261 subscribers. An outstanding vanity metric, yet we typically notched in the neighborhood of just 1K views per

⚑ Async Scaling and Lightning-Fast APIs

To combat a bot-freeze caused by a flood of rapid edit commands, the team engineered an β€œAsync Webhook DoS Shield,” migrating Telegram webhooks to non-blocking Celery and Redis tasks. On the frontend, a full-stack performance optimization slashed database queries from ~250 down to just 5-8 per page load. Paired with a new Next.js caching strategy, frontend response times plummeted from 2-4 seconds to under 100ms.

In other words, the site is now blazingly fast!

πŸ“± The Progressive Web App (PWA) & Multi-Auth

Leviathan News is now a fully installable Progressive Web App featuring push notifications, offline support, and native mobile UI optimizations like notch support. The team also rolled out multi-auth, allowing users to log in seamlessly using Passkeys, Google OAuth, or Twitter/X OAuth without needing a Web3 wallet. It remains under testing, so report back your findings!

πŸ’° Sponsored Ads and Editor Commissions

The Leviathan sponsored ads portal received an advertiser-friendly overhaul. As part of this update, the team introduced three new public pricing tiers: Newswire, Featured, and Breaking. Sponsors also gained a rich per-ad analytics dashboard.

πŸ¦‘ Squid Cave Upgrades & Tag Taxonomy

Users can finally edit their comments after posting, complete with a transparent revision history. Behind the scenes, the community undertook a massive tag taxonomy cleanup, ensuring consistent Title Casing and precise regex mapping for thousands of tokens and crypto projects.

Recipients:

  • Zero, activity shown above, has spearheaded many of these efforts, with more to come, worth a follow on Github (zknpr)
  • SecondSetMaze for continuing effort on tag cleanup and additional dev help like preparing the monthly Squid Drop
  • JohnnyOnline for the auction bot support.
  • Squidtunia for frontend review and debugging

πŸ€– Squid DAO Bot

Owner: @Z_3_r_o
Recipient: 0x5abC63ebF1950d531408cf8E12cE24c047504847

What It Is

The Squid DAO Bot is a self-hosted Telegram bot that provides real-time governance monitoring, automated alerts, AI-powered proposal summaries, and in-bot voting for the SQUID DAO. It serves as core infrastructure for DAO participation, lowering the barrier for token holders to stay informed and vote.

March 2026 Deliverables

  • Operations: Monitored 2 Snapshot proposals across their full lifecycle, dispatching 12 alerts to the @SquidDAOalert channel
    • March SQUID Drop (Covering February) β€” 7 lifecycle alerts (new β†’ started β†’ 1d β†’ 1h ending β†’ ended)
    • Revenue Allocation & Lender Recovery Framework β€” 5 alerts (active at month-end)
  • Continued on-chain governance monitoring of FolioGovernor events on Ethereum (1 proposal tracked, 6 on-chain alerts lifetime)
  • 5 registered users with encrypted in-bot voting wallets

Development (17 commits, 14 merged PRs, +1,579 / βˆ’393 lines):

  • 8 refactors β€” reduced complexity across OnchainMonitorService, TelegramBot, SnapshotService, MonitorService; extracted methods, flattened nesting, modularized GraphQL queries
  • 4 test suites added β€” TelegramBot init, config.js, BotMonitor, SnapshotService (expanding coverage)
  • 3 security fixes β€” SQL injection prevention (parameterized PRAGMA queries), XSS mitigation (quote escaping in escapeHTML()), dead code removal
  • 1 performance upgrade β€” TTLCache rewritten with linked-list LRU, voting power caching, parallelized on-chain alert dispatch

Rationale

The bot is persistent DAO infrastructure β€” it runs 24/7, ensures no proposal goes unnoticed, and enables voting without leaving Telegram. Unlike one-time content contributions, it provides continuous utility that compounds as governance activity grows. A dedicated category recognizes this ongoing operational and development effort.

Another month has passed, and another SQUID DAO vote for @leviathan_news contributions is soon coming up.

For me, as many of you know, it’s mostly doing livestreams.

These were my interviews on my show in March - 9 livestreams this time.

Let’s look at them.

We’re introducing some new categories this month to become staple categories without listing accomplishments:

πŸ’° Treasury

Send $SQUID emissions directly to the multisig, to be spent directly via the DAO

πŸ₯ Recovery

Direct SQUID to the Fraxtal recovery pool per the recent Revenue Allocation Framework

March Summary

Put it all together, and the April SQUID Drop (covering March) has been tallied. The full leaderboard is presented in detail here for all 129 proposed recipients across all 9 categories.

To better help you prepare your vote, try copying the spreadsheet above and updating the default even weighting in column D. The final tallies on the full breakdown tab update automatically.

After the final DAO vote is completed, we’ll record the final weighting and update the master sheet, which you may browse for historical reference (though we realize we’ve been lax about updating it please forgive us).

The official discussion link for this budget is hosted on our website. Chat there, not just to earn points for the upcoming SQUID Drop, but because it will make you a better informed voter!
