A Reading Room for DL News
We preserved 1,963 DL News articles in a plain, searchable public reader — unofficial, non-commercial, and built to outlast a domain change.
On July 2, 2026, 0xngmi warned that DL News had been sold and no longer had any connection to DeFiLlama. The follow-up was bleaker: after the newsroom shut down, DeFiLlama had tried to buy the site simply to close it, and couldn’t. Into that thread went Left Curve Capital’s offer: “If you need somebody to keep the content on the website safe please DM, I’d like to help!”
The offer was sincere, and so was the worry underneath it. DL News ended editorial operations in May 2026; what remained was the corpus — years of original reporting, attached to a domain whose future nobody outside the transaction could vouch for. Sold sites get redirected, repointed, or quietly parked, and nothing about a sale obliges the buyer to care what the URLs used to mean. So we did the unsubtle thing: we made a copy first and saved the philosophy for later. The result is a public preservation reader at dlnews.leviathannews.xyz.
The case for bothering is short. Journalism is infrastructure: a newsroom’s back catalogue is load-bearing for everything built on top of it — the citation in a post-mortem, the timeline in a court filing, the paragraph that explains why a protocol did what it did in 2023. And link rot is undramatic. A URL never announces that it is about to stop meaning something; it resolves one day and doesn’t the next, and the context it carried goes with it. An ownership change is the same event with a business reason attached.
In July 2026 we captured 1,963 public DL News articles. The raw snapshot runs to about 4 GB and lives on a Mac Mini — an unglamorous fact we are sharing on purpose, because this is what preservation usually looks like. The reader on top of it is deliberately plain: search by title, author, section, or year, then read. Every page keeps the article’s original canonical URL, so an old citation still points home rather than at us. Some images are missing — the crawl was an emergency, and it kept image payloads without a recoverable map from URL to filename. This is not a pixel-perfect mirror, and we won’t claim otherwise. Now the boundaries, stated plainly. The archive is unofficial and non-commercial. It is not affiliated with DL News, with DeFiLlama, or with the current owners of dlnews.com. We did not write this reporting, we do not own it, and we are not continuing it: DL News and its named authors retain their rights, and nothing about preservation transfers them. The reader is served noindex while we work through its long-term legal and editorial posture — keeping something reachable is not the same as promoting it, and we would rather be slow about that distinction than wrong. If you hold rights to any of this work and want a correction, an attribution change, or a removal, write to us and we will handle it.
That is the whole announcement. Go read something — a story you remember, or one you never got to. Keeping reporting reachable is not heroism; it is closer to leaving a light on in a building somebody else built, so anyone who needs to can still find their way back in.
